Introduction to Performance Development
The KJO performance coaching team provide a coaching pathway for individuals to achieve levels of high performance in both recreational and competitive sectors of freestyle and river running. Your personal coach will work holistically to gain a firm understanding of you, then help you develop an agreed development programme. The focus of the training will be optimising your performance towards a specified outcome whilst providing ongoing support and development through e-mentoring and the appropriate resources. We recognise that just as each individual who comes to us for coaching is unique, the coaching we provide should also be unique. To create this uniqueness we work within a framework that allow many outcomes. This framework has a base consistency as follows:
- Identify your training needs and delivering a tailored learning experience.
- Understanding - motivation and encouragement.
- Help with reflection techniques and identification of your achievements.
- Improve your ability to understand what and how you are learning, and to review, plan and take responsibility for your own ongoing development.
- Provide you evidence of your skills development and achievements.
- The latest video analysis techniques.
- Deliver a training program to meet personalised expectations.
What is LTPD and how does it offer me more?
As part of KJO life long learning strategy we provide a comprehensive range of performance programmes for all ages including; juniors ages 10-18, seniors 18-35 and masters 35+. We provide tailored coaching to suit individual physical, mental, cognitive and emotional requirements. This allows maximised potential and the ability to explore the furthest boundaries of performance.
KJO provides performance coaching and mentoring services that enable individuals to achieve their optimum level of performance through comprehensive training methods. These are specifically designed to develop and enhance technique, tactics, and fitness whilst incorporating sports psychology.
Along with our proven techniques, we are also committed to evaluating and developing new training and coaching methods ensuring that you receive only the best. Combine this with our experience and our client’s successes and you’ll see why we have such a fantastic reputation.
I want to further develop my performance, where do I start?
The first step is to identify why you want to improve your performance. Is it because you want to explore your own capabilities within the sport, or maybe it is to achieve medals and recognition in the competitive arena.
From here we then mutually design your training plan, this plan receives regular reviews to ensure changes are accounted for.
Success in achieving high performance depends on a number of factors coming together:
- Identifying your aspirations and development gaps
- Ensuring you continue to develop through the best coaching
- Identifying appropriate training needs and providing access to valuable support and services.
For tips and tools to help you achieve this see our performance resources, it’s the management and implementation of this formula that allows you to achieve success.
What do I do next and how do I get involved?
There are two ways you can use our service, firstly many individuals choose to use our coaching services to assist their personal development at key points via our Skills Development courses. Examples are: - to achieve a particular move or sequence, to push through performance plateaus or deal with unforeseen hurdles in their development.
The second option is our Long Term Performance Development (LTPD) programs. The benefits of these are that we record and track your progression throughout the duration of your custom programme, optimising your learning on the water and providing the opportunity to explore the exciting possibilities of your sport.
Both these options provide the same high performance coaching, but allow you more flexibility in how you use our services.
Check out our courses then use our online booking service or contact our customer service desk for more advice on a course or programme to suit your requirements.
Can I get national qualifications?
We provide a comprehensive range of British Canoe Union (BCU) Awards for specialised disciplines and environments such as expeditions, white water paddling, and freestyle.
Do I need to be a good level to come on a performance program?
Each program we run has its own advice as to the appropriate level for that course. Please email or call our office on +44 [0]845 0948 276 for more advice.
