Foundation Safety and Rescue Training
This is an essential safety course for paddlers wanting to explore the possibilities of paddlesport in sheltered water environments. The course aims to provide key safety and rescue skills required to operate safely and be able to deal with any common emergencies that may arise.
What can this course provide me?
The course is designed for paddlers and coaches irrespective of their chosen craft, or as may be the case for coaches, as either a boat based or bank based coach.
- Group management and communication.
- Safety and rescue protocols.
- Bank based rescue techniques.
- Boat based rescue techniques.
- Self rescue techniques.
- Rescuing an unconscious or entrapped paddler.
- Advice and familiarisation with safety equipment and its use.
What experience do I need to go for my training?
Due to paddling environment and boat control required the candidate paddler or boat based coach would need to either hold the 2 Star Award or be of equal ability.
- Be able to swim in normal paddlesport clothing suitable for the prevailing conditions.
- Be age 14 years or over.

What does the assessment involve?
The assessment part of this course is run as a continues assessment, this means that as you complete each training unit you will need to show the necessary level of competence for each skill before successful completion of the course.
