Freestyle Sessions (2hrs)

Why not use one of our sessions to give your freestyle a quick boost? Whether it’s tailoring your own development program or taking advantage of the odd session to get some help to nail those nifty tricks, one of these sessions will suit.

Freestyle sessions offer all the latest coaching tool to ensure you maximise your progression both during and after your session. These sessions will give you new skills and a mini action plan to promote your continued development.

What does the course offer me?

FT sessions are designed to enable individual observation and analysis. This enables your coach to provide feedback and advice on your specific needs. Every session taps KJO’s depth of experience in freestyle performance coaching.

Here’s a sample of how your session could be used:

Arrive, Warm-ups

  • Arrive 10min early; bank side warm ups - 5 min.
  • Discuss your expectations for the session with coach.
  • Warm up runs on wave/hole – getting wired in.

Identified Development Gaps

  • Familiarise with the feature and demonstrate your core manoeuvres.
  • Coach will observe and analyse to identify your development gaps.

Target Development of Freestyle Manoeuvres

  • Specific moves and performance practice - identifying key areas for improvement and development.
  • Mid session break, get out of your boat, stretch, re hydrate, and have a quick snack.
  • Re visit key points during break with your coach.
  • Continue working on specific moves and performance practice.

Session Debrief

  • Individual De-briefs with coach – establish mini action plan.

This is an example of a FT session, if you don’t have a plan or don’t know where to start your coach will help identify development gaps and agree a program for your own individualised session.

What level of ability do I need to be?

In order to get the best out of this course you should have fundamental boat control on Grade 3 water. This includes manoeuvres such as breaking in/out, ferry gliding, surfing and a consistent white water roll. You should also be reasonably fit. If you have little freestyle experience or are lacking a confident roll, you should check out our 3 Star Inland or Advance Rolling courses.
