Introduction to Park & Huck
Endorsed by Liquidlogic kayaks ‘Park & Huck’ is a cutting edge program designed to deliver the necessary skills needed to tackle steep creeks, granite slabs and waterfalls successfully. You’ll be coached in all the latest boating skills needed for this exciting and challenging environment. By the end of this 5 day program you’ll have covered all the latest steep creeking techniques and tactics, know and understand the environment, it’s risks and consequences, how to get yourself and others out of danger, and foremost, knowledge of your own limitations.
This is an action packed coached trip aimed at Intermediate / Advanced boaters who want to improve performance and gain leadership experience in this challenging environment.
What can Park and Huck provide me?
You will be coached in a diverse range of skills to suit the ever changing needs of steep-creeking environment. The week starts with a needs analysis and then moves to quickly set out a mutually agreed development plan for the week. From then on you’ll be coached on a progressive range of Grade 4(5) rivers, learning all the skills you need to boat with confidence and control.
The course provides the following core development opportunities. This list is a sample of some of the areas we cover:-
- Learn all the latest steep-creaking techniques.
- Increase your knowledge of this river environment.
- Have a greater understanding of white water dynamics.
- Tactical knowledge of selecting and achieving lines.
- A greater understanding of mental rehearsal and how to best apply it.
- Boat and bank based scouting techniques including assessing risks and consequence.
- Learn and gain experience in essential safety and leadership
- Confidence in your boating abilities, and understanding your limitations.
- Trip planning and map reading skills.
- Regular video analysis sessions to aid skill acquisition and efficiency.
- Set a long-term action plan for your on going development.
In order to ensure you get the best learning opportunities available KJO use a range of creative debriefing tools each day. Throughout the week the KJO professional coaching experience will allow you to achieve multiple goals so as to balance and maximise your skill development.
What level of ability do I need to be?
In order to get the best out of this course you should feel confident on grade 4 water. You must have a reliable white water roll (80%+ effective). You should also be reasonably fit as there is a certain amount of trekking with boats involved. If you have little confidence with drops and falls or your roll is not confident check out our Free-ride V2 or Advanced Water Rolling Courses.
